Melissa Miller is a family law and criminal defense attorney serving Huntsville Alabama. She didn’t plan on becoming a lawyer. Life made her one. I’ve been a reporter, a plaintiff, a military wife, a single mom of three, a cancer survivor, and a caregiver — sometimes all at once. I became a reporter because I believed in truth. Then one day, that work turned on me. I was pregnant, and I sued — and won. One of the largest pregnancy discrimination verdicts of its time.
My husband came home from war changed. I raised small children through it. I enrolled in law school and filed for divorce in the same season. I graduated, opened my own firm, survived cancer, and kept going. Today I run a law firm, raise my kids, and care for my mother. I tell you all of this so you understand — when you sit across from me, I already know what it feels like to need a lawyer and not know who to trust.
Outside the office I’m a proud mom of three — my son is building his career, my middle daughter just earned a spot in veterinary school at Tuskegee University this fall, and my youngest keeps me on my toes. At home it’s me, Millie and Lucky — my two Old English Sheepdogs who have absolutely no idea they’re dogs — three cats who run the house like they own it, and honorary grandpuppy Goose, my daughter’s OES who visits enough to count as a resident. Life is full, loud, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
I built this firm because people going through the hardest moments of their lives deserve an attorney who treats those moments with the weight they carry. This is not your average law firm. And I am not your average attorney.
